- Arthur
Adams
|
- Gen-X/Gen-13 Cover ~NEW~
- Here's a great cover by Art Adams
used for the Gen-X/Gen-13 crossover comicbook. Typical of Adams,
there's lots of detail and lots of heroes although in this case,
they all seem to have had better days.
|
|
| |
- Wolverine 2000 Sketch ~NEW~
- A cool Wolverine convention piece
bought online from an Adams fan.
|
|
|
- Batman `98 Sketch ~NEW~
- This Batman art was bought at
the same time as the Wolverine above.
|
|
|
- Batman and Robin Illustration
- I bought this FANTASTIC Batman
and Robin pinup from Art Adams and his Rep. John Fanucchi at
Wondercon 2003. I almost didn't get it as someone else had it
on hold. I kicked around the con for several hours in a foul
and bitter mood for missing this piece until I lucked out and
was told that I could purchase it. Whew!
|
|
|
- Gen13/Monkey Man & O`Brian Half Splash
- Here is a very nice interior page
from Arthur Adams with great shots of all the main characters,
published in Issue 1 pg 22 of the cross-over mini-series. Fantastic
inking by one of the best in the business, Sandra Hope.
|
|
| |
- X-Men Movie Double Page Cover ~Gone~
- Here is a wonderful Arthur Adams
cover and it's a nice double page image measuring 20"x15"
of the X-Men battling the Brotherhood of Mutants lead by Magneto.
This was advertised as the wrap-around cover of a Wizard X-Men
movie special. Arthur's agent says that the piece was part of
a give-away that came with the X-Men card game. The art features
all the lovely details that Art Adams is reknown for. The art
was done on larger board and to the right of the main image are
these two additional images of Professor X which
were imposed onto the cover.
|
|
|
- John
Baker
|
- Star Wars Darth Maul - Painting
- I bought this painting at a comic
book convention before Star Wars: Phantom Menace even came out.
The convention was the first time I had seen the Darth Maul character,
and I immediately was intrigued by him. They never should have
killed him... Grrr...
|
|
|
- Buzz
|
- "New" Black Widow ~NEW~
- I ran into Buzz set up in artist
alley at Chicago Wizardworld 2003. I know others have had some
difficulty in dealing with him, but I like his style as he's
a great artist. He didn't have any work lined up yet, so I looked
though the art he brought with him for sale, and a partially
finished "new" Black Widow (the blonde) jumped at me.
He told me what he wanted to do to finish the piece up, and I
agreed to buy it. I really like the movement in her body, the
gesture of the arms, and the piercing smile. Thanks Buzz.
|
|
|
- John
Byrne
|
- Amazing Spider-man Half Splash
- Here's a great battle page featuring
Spider-man against the villainous Scorpian, by the venerable
John Byrne, published in issue 1 pg 17.
|
|
| |
- Wonder Woman Cover - "Lifelines" trade
paperback ~Gone~
- John Byrne's run on X-Men with
Chris Claremont in the late 70's and eary 80's inspired a generation
of comic book fans, myself included. Until I manage to get a
great piece from one of those prized X-Men issues (yeah, right!),
I'm satisfied with this nicely detailed Wonder Woman cover which
also features Etrigan the demon.
|
|
| |
- Superman - issues 6, pg 6 ~Gone~
- Here is a page from John Byrne's
revamp of the Superman character. John did a good job of updating
the character and giving the series a breath of fresh air. Nicely
inked by I believe Karl Kesel.
|
|
|
- Travis
Charest
|
- Wildcats Vol.2 #9 COVER ~NEW~
- Anyone that knows me knows what
a HUGE Travis Charest fan I am. I'm extremely excited that I
finally got a later Travis piece from Volume 2 where his style
really seemed to take huge rapid leaps forward artistically -
plus, it's a cover! This is one of the last covers Travis worked
on before packing his bags and moving to France to work on Meta
Barons a few years ago. The fine pen work shading is so minute
that a lot of it almost looks like ink wash in the scan. It's
an awesome piece to see in person. Hurray! Patience does pay.
|
|
| |
- WildCATS Vol. 1 Voodoo Splash Page
- "Welcome to Hell Everybody."
Is the line Voodoo says on this page from issue 25 pg 26. I was
thrilled to get this excellent highly detailed splash of Voodoo.
Travis amazes me more and more with each new project he undertakes,
ever evolving to higher standards of artistry. Please let me
know if you have Charest art to sell or trade, especially if
it is something from his later period (Wildcats Volume 2 and
later).
|
|
| |
- WildCATs Savant Splash page - vol 1, iss 21,
pg 4
- Here is a piece I was able to
buy from Travis Charest at Wondercon 2003, and it is in my opinion
the nicest piece he had at that show. I was really hoping he
would be selling some Wildcats volume 2 or X-Men/Wildcats pages,
but he wasn't (anyone selling any?!). This full page splash of
Savant and Max Cash was a fine pickup.
|
|
| |
- Zealot Sketch
- Many eager fans waited to meet
Travis Charest on Friday of Wondercon 2003. When he finally showed
up a mob formed immediately around his table. I happened to be
the first person to ask Travis for a sketch, and so, ended up
with his first sketch of Wondercon 2003, and it's a cool Zealot
head shot. As he got warmed up, he started spending even more
time on the sketches, really giving his fans a treat. Travis
is the man!
|
|
|
- WildCATS Vol 1 Semi-Splash ~Gone~
- This nice page from issue 18 pg16
has some NICE shots of some of the main WildCATS characters.
Particularly nice is a Zealot with attitude, ready for action.
Within this series, Travis transformed from a Jim Lee Look-a-like
with class into an art-God. It's very inspiring to see someone
grow to such an extent so quickly.
|
|
|
- WildCATS Vol. 1 Spartan/Warblade Splash Page
~Gone~
- Here's a nice splash page from
WildCATS Vol 1, Iss 25 page 30. It has Spartan erupting out of
the ground about to smack down Warblade. Even though Travis only
illustrated
half of the double size issue 25 (Kevin Nowlan did the other
half), there's some really nice work in there including 6 full
page splashes and 2 double page splashes.

|
- Frank
Cho
|
- E.R.Burroughs Mars Illo. - Thark vs 2 Women ~NEW~
- Frank Cho has shown his incredible
talents in a variety of genre from humor, to sci-fi, and more
recently his superhero work. My favorite (so far) has to be his
fantasy work, and this illustration based on ER Burroughs Mars
stories is one of the earlier pieces that I saw from him in that
genre. It was featured in Frank Cho Illustrator, and I believe
it was also used as a cover to the National Panthans Journal.
I remember marveling at Frank's mastery of dynamic anatomy, the
energy of the twisting figures, and the great composition of
the piece. And yeah, the women are nice too! I don't collect
art with nudity, but I had to make one exception because it is
Frank, and because this is one of my favorite pieces from him.
I've coveted this piece for years, so my thanks to Mr. Ray Cuthbert
for agreeing to sell this beauty to me!
|
|
|
- Cheesecake & Critters Prelim ~NEW~
- On the reverse is this little
gem which has the inscription "Prelim for Cheescake + Critters
porfolio piece in case you're wondering." Very nicely done
prelim.
|
|
| |
- Cavewoman and Klyde Cover ~Gone~
- Frank Cho has become one of the
biggest names in modern comic books with good reason. He's certainly
become one of my favorite artists with his mastery of the dynamic
human form. I am very happy to get this great piece in which
he collaborated with the creator of Cavewoman, Budd Root. The
art was used as the cover for a Cavewoman sketchbook. You can
practically feel your desk shake when Klyde, the huge gorilla,
jumps to the ground!

|
|
- Tom
Derenick
|
- Vampirella Oil Painting
- Back in `98 or 99 Tom Derenick
seemingly came out of nowhere and started auctioning off several
pieces of art every week on ebay. His work garnered him quite
a following and most of his pieces went for very healthy prices.
He attracted enough attention to himself that Wizard Magazine
did an article on his ebay auctions. Soon after, he started getting
regular comic book assignments from DC and Marvel Comics including
some X-Men work so he only rarely sells things on ebay these
days. I always thought it was fantastic that a relatively unknown
artist could do so well on ebay, and then use that success to
propel him to bigger and better things. The majority of Tom's
ebay art was pencil tone renderings of sexy female comic book
characters - quite nice. His women always have a cold sensuality
about them. I only recall seeing two color pieces by him including
this one. This is probably my favorite piece that I have seen
from Tom, so I'm very glad to have it. It's oil paint on 12"x16"
canvas board.

|
|
- Gary
Frank
|
- The Incredible Hulk - issue 406, pg15
- Gary Frank had big shoes to fill,
being the penciller that took over the Hulk series after Dale
Keown, and he did an admirable job. This unique page features
an interesting layout of 6 frames shown as a view through a camera
lens as someone takes photographs of a battle between the Hulk,
Doc Samson, and Captain America. Cool.
|
|
|
- Tom
Fleming
|
- Wizard - Magic the Gathering Painting
- This painting is one out of a
set of four paintings by Tom Fleming that was published in InQuest
Magazine, the magazine for "Magic, The Gathering" card
game players. For those familiar with the game, the Wizard is
drawing mana (a form of magic energy) from the Earth in preparation
for casting a spell.
|
|
|
- Mike
Grell
|
- Green Arrow Pencil Pinup
- Besides my older brother, my earliest
art influence was probably Mike Grell from the mid 70's back
when he did Legion of Superheroes, Aquaman, and Green Arrow.
Way back then, I didn't know who Neal Adams was, so to me, Grell
was the man! My interest in Grell's work waned when the new kids
showed up like Byrne, Perez, and company. This Green Arrow pencil
piece reminds me a lot of the old "Iron Mike" that
I enjoyed as a kid. Very very cool indeed

|
- Samual
Clarke Hawbaker
|
- Pitt Cardset Art - Inked Illustration
- Here's one of S.Clarke Hawbaker's
contribution to the Pitt card set. One of these days, I hope
to get two other sketches I commissioned from him back in Mid-Ohio
Con 2000 (or was it 1999?).
|
|
|
- Bryan
Hitch
|
- Superman Space Battle Illustration
- Once in a while a piece of art
comes along unlooked for that really speaks to me and gets the
pulse pounding. All rational thought about budgets, affordability,
and disciplined art collecting go out the window. This is such
a piece, and it is fantastic. The art is to me the best piece
I've seen from Bryan Hitch and inker Paul Neary, and it is also
a perfect depiction of Superman doing battle with a huge nightmare
monstrocity that looks like it might give the Man of Steel quite
a hard time. The detail and depth of the piece is amazing. The
art is a little bigger than a double page spread and is done
on a single large 23"x18" board (much preferred over
two taped pieces!). I want to thank Bryan, Paul and their agent,
Rich Dedominicis, for making this happen. AWESOME!
|
|
|
- Ultimates HULK sketches
- Bryan Hitches version of the Hulk
in the Ultimates series was really great - Bryan really gave
him all the mass and power befitting the Green Goliath. Here
are a bunch of study sketches for the Hulk.

|
|
- Alex
Horley
|
- Frazetta's Death Dealer - Painted Commission
- Alex Horley is an amazing artist
from Italy. This is a fantastic commission from him of Frank
Frazetta's Death Dealer character.
|
|
| |
- Conan and Red Sonja - Pencil Illustration
- Here is a stunning interpretation
of the two leading fantasy characters by Alex Horley. As with
all pencils, so much of the subtle grey tone detail is lost in
the scan. Horley's Conan is perfect, looking grim and deadly.
This goes great with the Red Sonja below.
|
|
| |
- Red Sonja - Pencil Commission
- Another fine example of Alex Horley's
artistic prowess - a stunning Red Sonja! I was very fortunate
to be able to get these commissions when Horley was represented
by Italian art agent Enrico Salvini, of Red Sector Art.
|
|
| |
- Elektra Assassin - Pencil Commission
- Another fine commission by Alex
Horley of Elektra. Wow! These pieces I have from Horley, shows
that he is equally adept with the paints and brush as he is with
the pencil.
|
|
|
- Adam
Hughes
|
- X-Men - WildC.A.T.s Cross-over Double Page Splash ~NEW~
- The first time I saw this fantastic
piece of art in another collectors Lowry Gallery, my jaw just
dropped. I saw this large piece in person at Wondercon 2003,
and of all the art in the entire con, it was the one piece I
wanted most but due to the high price tag on it, I couldn't justify
getting it. A month and a half later, after making some hard
sacrifices, and after working out a deal with it's previous owner,
this near-Grail original from one of my favorite artists is now
mine. I am told that Adam Hughes himself considers this piece
one of his top 10 creations - I would certainly agree. And it
is fabulously inked by one of the best inkers in the industry,
Mark Farmer. I am really honored to have this. Wow!
|
|
|
- Wonder Woman 143 Cover
- FINALLY, I managed to get an Adam
Hughes Wonder Woman cover. Adam's work truly amazes me. His wonderful
skills in depicting the female form is obvious, but Adam's talent
goes far beyond just cheese cake. His sense of design, story
telling, character-personality, humor - all of it is there. I
can finally make a check off on one of my long time art goals
- a Hughes WW! AHHHH!
|
|
| |
- Wonder Woman 157 Cover Prelim - Pencil
- Adam Hughes, who has a growing
legion of fans world wide. His art clearly showcases his unique
eye for design. Here is a preliminary illustration for one of
his much prized Wonder Woman covers. This very clean and polished
"prelim" is a finished piece of art unto itself. 11"x14"
|
|
| |
- Wonder Woman 165 Cover Prelim - Pencil
- Here is a second Wonder Woman
cover preliminary illustration by Adam Hughes. Unfortunately,
the subtle pencils do not scan very well. 11"x14"
|
|
| |
- Rogue - Pencil Commission
- Adam Hughes' rendition of Rogue,
from the X-Men. With economic, purposeful lines, Adam is able
to bring the character to life imparting sentuality and attitude.
I commissioned this at a convention sometime around `93.
|
|
| |
- Richochet & Rapture (short story from Savage
Dragon) - Page 2
- Here is a great example of Adam
Hughes' interior story artwork - the layout is interesting and
the composition leads the reader's eyes from panel to panel.
As usual, Adam's rendering is excellent. Oh, and rapture looks
pretty good too.

|
|
- Stuart
Immonen
|
- Thor Beta Ray Bill Half-Splash
- Walt Simonson's run on Thor remains
one of my favorites and I loved the character of Beta Ray Bill.
Here's one of the nicest non-Simonson Beta Ray Bill's I've seen
by Stuart Immonen, Thor #33 pg 9.
|
|
|
- Dave
Johnson
|
- Wolverine vs Villians - Inked Pin-Up
- Here's a dramatic pin-up from
Dave Johnson, of the always popular Wolverine about to rough
house it with the Scarecrow, Killer Croc, and Abomination. Dave
has been doing some wonderful cover art for comics such as 100
Bullets.
|
|
|
- Casey
Jones
|
- Spider-man, Thor, & Fantastic 4 (from Earth
X Online - ep 3, pg 10)
- This is one of the original pages
used to produce the online Earth X story. I never saw the story,
but loved this image of some of the icons of Marvel Comics, flying
through the storm: Spider-man, Thor, and the Fantastic Four!!
|
|
|
- Red Sonja Commission
- Here's Casey Jones' rendition
of the very dangerous Red Sonja, a sketch commissioned at the
Motorcity Con Spring 2003.
|
|
|
- Jeffrey
Jones
|
- Tarzan - Sands of Time - Oil Painting
- I enjoy this large 24"x32"
oil on stretched canvas masterpiece painting by Jeffrey Jones
every day I'm in my studio. His brushstrokes dance across the
canvas mixing perfect colors and shapes to create a true work
of art. I'm not sure if this painting has been published elsewhere,
but Jeffrey tells me it will be included in an upcoming collection
of his art. Definitely one of my favorite pieces.
|
|
| |
- Tarzan - Battleready with a Spear - Pencil Drawing
- Jeffrey Jones makes it look deceivingly
easy to create fantastic art. I'm glad to have this great example
of his pencil work.
|
|
| |
- The Lioness - oil painting ~Gone~
- This fantastic large painting
is another masterpiece by Jones. He put some kind of magic into
this whimsical image of a woman tossing flowers at a lioness.
Here's a piece that I truly regret no longer owning.
|
|
|
- J.G.
Jones
|
- Black Widow Sketch ~NEW~
- I'm a big fan of J.G. Jones' Black
Widow so it was a treat to get this pencil convention commission
from him through a friend.
|
|
| |
- Black Widow - issue 1, page 15 ~Gone~
- Here's a page from the break-thru
work from J.G. Jones on the three issue Black Widow mini-series.
The original art, finished with ink and ink wash, looks much,
much better in grey tones than the printed colored comic book.
|
|
|
- Joe
Jusko
|
- La of Opar - Tarzan Cardset painting
This is one of my favorite paintings from Joe Jusko. When Joe
sold it to me, he said this was the last piece that he did for
the E.R.Burroughs cardset that he kept for himself. I'm glad
he decided to let it go! This piece illustrates Scene 11, from
Tarzan the Invincible. On the coversheet of the painting, Joe
inscribes "The creature crouched and with twitching tail
slowly wormed forward. La rose and drew from her girdle the knife
that she had takn from Darus."
|
|
|
- Dale
Keown
|
- Hulk - Corner Box Cover Art ~NEW~
- I really enjoyed Dale Keown's
Hulk comic work and his version of the character set new standards
for me. His aptitude for drawing HUGE muscle bound characters
with dramatic underlighting really shined on the book. =) This
acquisition is the corner box cover art published on about a
dozen issues early in Keown's run on the Hulk. As far as I know,
this is the first time the image has been displayed larger than
the 1" tall version published on the comic books. The original
is big and is done on standard 11x17 board. As is usual for corner
box art that gets reduced in size many times over, the original
art has heavy linework and deeper shadows, but in this case,
Keown's inks don't look heavy handed at all as the blacks make
the Hulk figure seem more imposing and powerful.
|
|
| |
- Superman - Action Comics #778 Cover ~NEW~
- This is Dale Keown's original
cover art to Action Comics #778. That issue was part of a story
arc running through all 4 Superman titles several years ago called
"Infestation" with the 778 being the climax. Keown
was the guest cover artist for those 4 Superman comics. Out of
the 4, I liked this cover the most as it has that classic head-to-head
good vs evil clashing confrontation design.
|
|
| |
- The Incredible Hulk Half Splash
- Dale Keown had a long and very
impressive run on the Hulk series, cementing him in to many fans
as one of the best artists to work on the Hulk. This is a nice
half splash inked by Bob McLeod of the Hulk making sure justice
prevails from issue 374 pg7.
|
|
|
- Andy
Lee
|
- Frazetta's Death Dealer
- Andy Lee is an amazing artist
who has adapted his sumi brush techniques to offer unique visions
of many popular characters. Here's his take on the axe wielding
Death Dealer.
|
|
| |
- Incredible Hulk
- Here is a wonderful vision of
the Hulk through Andy's brush.
|
|
|
- Ray
Lago
|
- Wonder Woman Watercolor commission
- I've really been enjoying Ray
Lago's recent color and tonal pieces, so when I met him at Wondercon
2003, I commissioned a full watercolor painting of one of my
favorite characters, Wonder Woman. Ray worked tirelessly on this
piece starting it in his hotel room, then working on it for most
of a day at the convention. The result is stunningly beautiful,
and I thank Ray for all his hard work.
|
|
|
- Jim
Lee
|
- X-Men 6 Pg2 Title Splash Page
- Jim Lee and Scott Williams, one
of the finest teams to work together in comic books, will forever
be remembered for their wonderful run on the X-Men. Here is a
fantastic battle splash page by them in which Omega Red introduces
himself to the X-Men by beating on them - WAM!! When Omega Red
was first introduced in the comic, everyone knew that the X-Men
were in for a world of hurt! Im real happy to give this
- my first Jim Lee piece - a home.
|
|
|
- WildC.A.T.s Issue50 pg1 Splash Page
- This is Jim Lee and inker Scott
Williams' page 1 splash for the last issue of WildCATS volume
1, before handing things over to Travis Charest in volume 2.
Here's an awesome shot of Spartan standing over the defeated
Voodoo.
|
|
|
- Mike
Mignola
|
- Hellboy vs Blitz Pinup
- This is one of my favorite Mike
Mignola Hellboy pieces and it's one that I "almost"
bought several years ago but let get away and had regretted ever
since. I actually prefer this piece over some of Mignola's covers
and pin ups. I like the beautiful page design where the black
and whites form a lightning bolt, I like the energy of the Simon
Bisley Blitz character about to pound down on Hellboy, I like
that it's the older broader shoulder Hellboy, I even like the
cool little flying demon leaping out of the way before all Hell
breaks loose. I'm real glad that I had a second opportunity to
pick this up and to finally give this piece a home.

|
|
- Phil
Noto
|
- Phoenix Color Commission ~NEW~
- Phil has been doing some great
fun commissions for fans. I was lucky enough to get this very
beautiful Phoenix color piece from Phil at Chicago Wizardworld
2003. Phil had brought several gorgeous pre-done pieces with
him for sale. Someone else had already committed to buying the
pre-done Phoenix piece, so when Phil saw my disappointment at
missing it, he offered to do a Phoenix commission for me over-night.
|
|
| |
- Elektra Color Commission ~NEW~
- I first me Phil Noto in person
at some convention sometime around 2000 or 2001 (the conventions
all blur together after a while). I asked for an Elektra commission
at that convention, but Phil was all booked up by the time I
got to him. He did say he would do one for me from home, and
here is the end result which I was able to get from him at our
next meeting at Chicago Wizardworld 2003.
|
|
| |
- She-Hulk - Mixed Media Color Illustration
- I bought this from Phil Noto through
an ebay auction in August 1999 when he was still an animator
for Disney Studios. Phil has since moved over to the comic book
arena and is fast gaining a huge fan following, offering a fresh
style with a wonderful sense of design. I love Phil's art.

|
|
- Kevin
Nowlan & Jon Bogdanove
|
- Superman Aliens II #4 Cover ~Gone~
- Here is a very nicely detailed
cover with Superman and Orion fighting off a nasty Alien Queen
and her brood. Traditionally, artwork is named after penciler
first, then inker (if at all). In the case of Kevin Nowlan art,
I would make an exception - Kevin rules.
|
|
|
- Eric
Powell
|
- Hellboy
~NEW~
- Based on some art I saw on the
net that I really liked, and some GREAT reviews of the GOON comic,
I searched out Eric Powell at the Chicago Wizardworld Con 2003.
Eric had at his booth the original paintings for his Goon covers,
and his Batman Arkham Asylum cover. This guy is a great talent,
and seems like a genuinely nice guy. I never read the GOON, so
I bought a copy of the TPB and other books he had in order to
get caught up to speed. He did some issues as a self publisher,
but Dark Horse is now publishing his comic relaunching the series
with #1. I've read the Goon books I bought from Eric, and I highly
recommend them . At the con, I asked Eric to do this Hellboy
commission for me.
|
|
|
- Humberto
Ramos
|
- Crimson #11 - Cover
- "Crimson" is one of
the few comic books I've really enjoyed in the last several years,
in no small part due to the very nice art produced by Humberto
Ramos and Sandra Hope (inker). This is one of my favorite covers
from the series featuring Alex Elder doing battle with St. George.
|
|
|
- John
Romita Sr.
|
- Marvel Superheroes Calendar Cover (unpublished)
- Here is a great iconic image of
Spider-man, Captain America, and the She-Hulk by one of the all
time comic book legends. This illustration was produced to be
the cover of the 1991 or 92 Marvel Calendar. Marvel however wanted
to replace the She-Hulk with the Hulk so Romita produced a different
version for publication. It's a big piece, being a bit larger
than standard comic art.
|
|
|
- Alex
Ross
|
- Superman Sketch
~Gone~
- I believe that Superman is Ross'
signature character. He really breathed life into the Man of
Steel in both Kingdom Come and also in the large format Peace
on Earth book. Here's a wonderful image of Ross' noble Man of
Steel.
|
|
|
- Steve
Rude
|
- Wonder Woman Pinup
- Here is fantastic Steve Rude Wonder
Woman pinup. Steve's an amazing artist and this piece is a beauty.
|
|
|
- Stan
Sakai
|
- Usagi Yojimbo - double swords - Pinup
- Stan Sakai's "Usagi Yojimbo"
is one of the most enjoyable reads around, chronicling the adventures
of the ronin samurai rabbit through feudal Japan.
|
|
| |
- Usagi Yojimbo - Umbrella - Pinup
- Stan Sakai's Usagi is ready for
action in this very nice piece.
|
|
| |
- Usagi Yojimbo - The Hand - Pinup
- Another pin-up illustration by
Stan Sakai of Usagi Yojimbo.
|
|
| |
- Usagi Yojimbo - Early Sketch ~Gone~
- Here's an earlier vintage sketch
of Usagi that was done by Sakai for someone named Joe. I bought
it from someone named Ed, so this little sketch has changed hands
a number of times. It's interesting to see the change in look
of this character from this early sketch (1987) to the other
more recent illustrations above (2000).
|
|
|
- Bill
Sienkiewicz
|
- Elektra "Spotless" ~NEW~
- I met Bill Sienkiewicz at Motorcity
con in the Spring of 2003. There I commissioned an Elektra piece
from him and was the second person on his commission list. Unfortunately
Bill was not able to complete the commission at that show even
though I drove the 5 hr round-trip for a second day just in hopes
of getting the art. Several other attempts to get my Elektra
at other conventions through friends in attendence was also not
successful. Finally at Chicago Wizardworld 2003, I saw that Bill
had brought a pre-done sweet Elektra that I decided to buy in
lieu of my commission, using my commission credit as partial
payment. I am calling the piece "Spotless" after discussing
the piece with Bill and understanding how he wanted to convey
Elektra's domination over the giant. I'm very happy to have my
first Sienkiewicz -- finally.
|
|
|
- Walter
Simonson
|
- Thor Sketch
- I don't know of anyone that read
Walt Simonson's classic run on Thor who wasn't just awe-inspired
by the epic tales that Walt was able to spin... really great
stuff. Unfortunately, Walt doesn't sell much of his art, so this
sketch obtained from Walt at the Cleveland Con 2003 is about
the closest thing I'm going to get to a Simonson Thor!
|
|
|
- Beta RAy Bill Sketch
- One of the coolest characters
from the last 20 years, from Walt Simonson's Thor, here's a head
sketch of the noble Beta Ray Bill. This is what Walt calls a
"zip" sketch - note the Simonson signature used as
part of the art including Bill's head.

- Tom Strong #16 Cover
- Here's the cover to issue #16
of Tom Strong by Chris Sprouse. Alan Moore and Sprouse's Tom
Strong is one of the few comics I enjoy these days and I have
always been a fan of Sprouse's fresh, open art. Since about half
of the Tom Strong issues have covers drawn by guest artists,
there aren't that many covers done by Sprouse. I'm very happy
to give this one a home.

Vallejo
|
- Dragon & Maiden - Pencil Tone Commission
- Boris Vallejo's work has amazed
me since I was a kid. His very polished technique and mastery
of the human physique is awe inspiring. I was smiling ear to
ear when Boris sent me this wonderful commission of a maiden
and her dragon companion - it's nice and big at 22"x14".

- Dragonrider Illustration - Mixed Media
- Getting this first piece of Boris
Vallejo's work was like getting a grail - an original by one
of the masters of fantasy art. And by coincidence, it is also
of a damsel and her dragon.

- Batman - Pencil Sketch
- Tim Vigil is known for some of
his darker works... here is his version of the Dark Knight of
Gotham, The Batman.

- Frazetta's Death Dealer - Pencil Sketch
- Tim Vigil does the Death Dealer
- when I asked him to do this for me at a convention, I believe
he said it was his first attempt at the character.

- Kev
Walker
|
- Wolverine & Colossus: Fastball Special Painting
- Kev Walker is a FANTASTIC painter
having done alot of really nice fantasy art (Magic the Gathering,
DnD type art, etc.). He's recently been doing more work for comic
books as well. Scott Eder at Motorcity Con Spring 2003 had a
host of Kev's paintings for sale. The ones that really caught
my eye were this awesome painting of two of the most popular
X-Men, Wolverine and Colossus, performing their trademarked attack
move, the Fastball Special. Wow!

| |
- X-Men: Mystique Painting
- Here's the other Kev Walker painting
I bought at Motorcity Con Spring 2003. This is by far the COOLEST
depiction of Mystique I have ever seen... the textures on her
skin aren't well captured in this scan.

- Tellos - Issue
8, Pg 10 ~Gone~
- Here's a nice page from Mike Wieringo's
creator owned fantasy comic series, Tellos. It has some nice
shots of the main characters, especially the very cool talking
tiger, walking through the woods with some racoon guys. Very
nicely inked by Rob Stull.
